The increasing life expectancy of humans has underscored the implications of sensory deficits for cognition in aging adults. Rapidly increasing evidence demonstrates that hearing loss in older adults is a modifiable risk factor for dementia. The newly established Hearing-Cognition Laboratory is dedicated to advancing our knowledge on this topic. Specifically, the lab aims to characterize cognition using behavioral and neurophysiologic measures, including electroencephalography (EEG) audiological testing, cognitive assessments. Before beginning data collection, the EEG systems must be calibrated to ensure the highest data quality for reliable results. This image depicts this calibration process, using a live participant, an undergraduate member of the research lab. Results from this testing ensured the best signal-to-noise ratio when obtaining EEG data, a necessary step prior to the commencement of data collection.
