Abstract

Kim Thomas simply believes that mathematics is the road to educational salvation. Kim has proven over and over again that every student has the capacity to understand math at a depth that they never thought possible. Her mathliciousness that sweeps up every student was recognized with being named the 2016 Illinois Teacher of the Year from the Illinois State Board of Education. Kim earned her Bachelor of Science in Education degree at Illinois State University in 1993. She earned a Masters of Arts in Education and Teacher Leadership from St. Xavier University in 2006. Kim will be inducted into 2016 Illinois State University College of Education Hall of Fame. She is the recipient of the 2015 Outstanding Teacher of the Year award for Peoria Public Schools, 2008 Friend of Special Education, 2001 Creative Teacher of the Year, and she is a multiple year honoree named in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. Mrs. Thomas has dedicated her 10 x 2 + 3 teaching career to Peoria Public Schools. She teaches middle school students math at Woodruff Career and Technical Center in Peoria Public Schools. Woodruff houses a contemporary learning program and the alternative school for Peoria County.
