Abstract
Successful academic libraries serve the needs, advance the missions, and achieve the outcomes of their parent institutions. To accomplish these goals, librarians must first ascertain what those needs, missions, and outcomes are—often in a complex and rapidly changing environment—and then adapt existing or devise new and responsive services and resources. They must balance aggregated offerings that make the most impact for large user groups with specialized attention for individual students, faculty, and community members. And they must be mindful of finite resources, adept in assessing competing options, and agile in making effective decisions and taking productive actions.
