Abstract
Netflix’s Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey documentary shocked and amazed audiences by revealing the realities occurring within an extremist sect of Mormonism, the Fundamentalists of the Church of Jesus Christ of LatterDay Saints (FLDS). With settlements throughout the United States, the FLDS is led by the now imprisoned prophet Warren Jeffs, encompasses over 10,000 members, and upholds strict beliefs and unyielding regulations. Utilizing a feminist critique to analyze the text, this paper identifies themes of female subservience, male control, silencings, and perversion were found. Avenuesfor future research could explore more texts and other frameworks to further understand life in this patriarchal closed religious community.
